Carlisle Custom Compact at Norwalk features hot cars, hot action

By Anonymous

NORWALK, Ohio March 19, 2004--Just when you thought Carlisle Events couldn’t get any bigger, we’ve upgraded to more than 100 acres of show field and a full quarter-mile drag strip. Expect the party to return as we pack up and hit the road to Ohio’s Norwalk Raceway Park, July 16-17. Some of the featured activities are an elite show field, drag racing, audio contests, burnouts and the Fun Field show field.

“I thought it would be difficult to recapture the magic of the Custom Compact event when it left Carlisle, but since our partnership with Norwalk Raceway Park became a reality, it’s been hard to contain my excitement about the event,” says Mike Kelsch, event planner. “I’m positive that this will be the best sport compact event of its kind. The magic of Carlisle has definitely returned and will continue to grow with the strength of the Carlisle/Norwalk team and the endless support of our incredibly dedicated show participants.”

Attendees will have the chance to see award-winning vehicles from the national show circuit Elite Judged Show Field. Space is limited in this competition, so if you think you have what it takes to be a top competitor, send photos and a description of your car to mikek@carsatcarlisle.com.

The best of the best will be under a tent on this 100-plus acre show field and will compete for the top honor of “Best of Show.” Classes will be broken down by make, with more than 50 trophies awarded, including Club Participation. The $85 fee gets your car and two adults (driver and passenger) through the gate for the entire event.

We didn’t want to leave out the thousands of other cars, so we’ve dedicated most of the show field to them with the Fun Field. Judges will walk around the Fun Field looking for the hottest cars out there, and the top cars in the following classes will be awarded: Top 10 Asian – Honda/Acura; Top 10 Asian – Other; Top 10 Euro; Top 10 Domestic; Top 10 Mini-Truck; Top Five Sport Bike.

The Fun Field is limited to these makes and models. Full-size trucks will not be admitted to the Fun Field unless they are lowered/modified and will be subject to our discretion at the gate. The $45 fee gets your car and two adults (driver and passenger) through the gate for the entire event.

Nighttime drag racing will offer your chance to have a lot of fun and win bragging rights. The sun will set and the engines will roar to life as Norwalk offers you the opportunity to race down the quarter mile. This is not an elimination event but a time trial to let you lay down your personal best or go head to head with somebody so you can stop arguing about who would win in a race. The time slip doesn’t lie.

After hearing about Norwalk’s incredible burnout competitions, Carlisle Events knew it had to happen at this show. The field will be limited to 32 cars with an elimination format. Two cars will go head to head while the crowd picks the winner. Each winner will move on to the next round until we find the ultimate burnout king. If you plan on blowing out your tires to impress the crowd, bring a few spares for the next round.

The MECA is an event like no other audio competition you’ve ever been a part of. “Boom & Zoom” is an option that MECA gives you to not only compete with your sound system but also to see what kind of time your ride can lay down on the track. Sure, MECA still offers the Sound Quality (SQ) and Sound Pressure Level (SPL) competitions that you’re used to, but expect the atmosphere of this competition to set a new standard.

If you want to see how much power that new intake or exhaust is giving you without getting your show car dirty on the track, strap it to the dyno and smash the throttle. Compete with your friends and complete strangers for the award of “Highest Horsepower” each day of the event.

Automated Updated Data Goes to the Field at Alliant Energy

By Anonymous

Carlsbad (CA) and Fort Collins (Colorado), October 14, 2002 - Field mapping software leader Tadpole-Cartesia, and Miner & Miner, a world leading developer and implementer of the award winning ArcFM Solution for utilities, today jointly announced the successful pre-implementation trials of their combined technologies at Alliant Energy to automate the transmission of geospatial maintenance and revision data to field crews.

This project is the first to be completed by Miner & Miner and Tadpole-Cartesia with a major utility since announcing a strategic alliance and technology partnership earlier this year. Its success now paves the way for Alliant to extend its rollout of the ArcFM Solution to include mobile and disconnected field units, using Tadpole's bolt-on GeoSync data synchronization modules.

"Mobile GIS has been one of Alliant Energy's most successful uses of GIS technology, making a frontline impact on operations. But it was a solution with a problem … the lack of an automation tool to provide revisions to the field crews," says Ted Wadzinski, Alliant Energy's Team Leader, GIS Systems and Services. "In the past, we sent out CD’s containing a complete data set with each update. In addition, there was no capability of receiving updates from the field units."

Wadzinski continues: "We've now completed a proof-of-concept of Tadpole's GeoSync software. Its ability to incrementally synchronize data in small packets of changes could allow Alliant to provide updates over the WAN and eliminate the process of burning CD’s. In addition, we envision the capability of receiving updates back from the field crews. Tadpole’s GeoSync software can dramatically improve our mobile GIS program by improving the currency of our data and allowing field users to make updates in the field and feeding them back to the central database."

Alliant Energy Corporation (NYSE:LNT) is an energy-service provider with growing domestic and international operations. Headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, it provides electric, natural gas, water and steam services to nearly three million customers worldwide. With total assets in excess of $6.2 billion, operating revenues of $2.7 billion, Alliant Energy's Midwest operations cover 54,000 square miles, and includes 43,000 miles of electric distribution and 9,700 miles of electric transmission lines and 8,800 miles of natural gas main.
